An extremely rare guitar made by arguably one of the best Luthiers of our time.

Gilchrist Guitars and Mandolins are built to order with mandolins making up most of his output, and while the archtop guitars account for a very small portion, about 70 in his 40 plus year career, they are unparallelled in sound and quality.

The Model 18 is no longer offered, it is the largest archtop instrument Gilchrist made and this particular one features on his 1995 blue prints page, it is one of only a handful of 18" archtops ever made by the meastro.

Established in 1977 Stephen Gilchrist instruments are built in Lake Gnotuk, Australia. He builds mandolins and guitars in small batches to ensure the highest quality of workmanship and playability.

He usually has a waitlist of 2-3 years and his mandolins are considered the best in the world (based on the famous Loar Era Gibsons of the 1920s). His archtop guitars are also unparalleled, and much scarcer having made less than 100 in his forty year career.

We consider ourselves fortunate to have two examples of Stephen's archtop guitars in the collection.
